ARCH ENEMY Drummer Says Former Singer ANGELA GOSSOW Will 'Always Be Straight And Honest' When It Comes To Band's New Music
January 8, 2018ARCH ENEMY drummer Daniel Erlandsson was recently interviewed by Australia's "Everblack" podcast. You can now listen to the chat below.
Asked if former ARCH ENEMY singer Angela Gossow is still involved with the group, Daniel said: "She is, actually, still the manager of the band. So she's working out of an office in Germany, and we have contact with her all the time, even when we're on the road.
"A lot of people ask us if, when we meet fans outside the club or whatever, they're, like, 'Is Angela on the bus? I heard she was still working with the band.' [And we tell them] 'Yeah, but she's in Germany. She's not on the bus.'"
According to Erlandsson, Gossow still offers her input when it comes to ARCH ENEMY's new music, although she is primarily in charge of handling the band's business affairs. "When we're sitting on new material, sometimes she'll hear it, and her initial reaction is usually an interesting one," he said. "Since we worked so much with her in the past, we know what she likes. And she'll always be straight and honest — that's the good thing. If it sucks, she'll tell us straight away."
Gossow said in a 2016 interview that she was "losing the joy" of fronting an extreme metal band before finally making the decision to quit ARCH ENEMY, explaining that she wanted to "step down rather than pretend."
After 13 years as ARCH ENEMY's vocalist, Gossow shocked the heavy metal world in 2014 with the sudden announcement of her retirement from the band.
Angela also praised her replacement in ARCH ENEMY, Alissa White-Gluz (formerly of THE AGONIST),while revealing that she had started managing Alissa's new solo project.
ARCH ENEMY recently completed a North American co-headlining tour with TRIVIUM. On January 12, the group will kick off a European headlining tour, during which they will be supported by WINTERSUN, TRIBULATION and JINJER.
ARCH ENEMY's latest album, "Will To Power", was released in September via Century Media Records. Co-produced by guitarist Michael Amott and Erlandsson, the disc was mixed and mastered by longtime collaborator and friend Jens Bogren (OPETH, AT THE GATES, DIMMU BORGIR). The LP's cover artwork was designed by Alex Reisfar.
"Will To Power" marks the second ARCH ENEMY album since the departure of Gossow and addition of White-Gluz.
